In the summer of 2014, we had the exterior of our house painted with some updated colors. Our goal was to maintain the classic “look” for our old house, but to introduce some color so that the details of the trim, columns, etc. would stand out a little more.

We spent quite a bit of time and effort picking paint colors for the house. After much debate, we finally selected Benjamin Moore Classic Gray (OC-23) for the siding and the Sherwin Williams match for Andersen Sandtone for the trim (so that any maintenance free details we might add in the future would blend right in).

Along with exterior paint, we also tackled a variety of other, related projects:

Update:  Our exterior painting project is now complete – check out the “after” photos (and final paint color choices) here! Guess what?  The time has finally come to paint the exterior of our house.  We’ve known this day was coming … we even got estimates 3 or 4 years back before deciding to hold off…

Whenever winter decides to finally be over and the ground thaws, we’ll be starting a pretty exciting (to us, at least) project.  We’ll be switching from overhead to underground service for electricity, phone, and cable.  Totally exciting, right? In all seriousness, we’re really happy to finally be making this change.  It’s something we’ve wanted to…

We’ve known for a while now that we would need to eventually replace the two sets of patio doors in our sunroom.  We aren’t sure exactly how old they were – they were added sometime after the room was enclosed (it used to be a screened in porch) in the 50’s, but we think they…

Our big home improvement project this spring/summer will be painting the house.  We haven’t been thrilled with the current paint job since we moved in (lots of built up, scaled paint, etc.), but it has really started to fail in the last year or so, so it’s finally time to do something about it.  We…

On Monday, the painters came out to officially start work on prepping our house for fresh paint.  The weather forecast wasn’t great (the weather man was calling for rain starting around 1:00), but their first step was to pressure wash the house and that was able to be completed in just a few hours, so…

Exterior Painting Progress

It’s been a good 3 weeks since our house dried out from being pressure washed and the painters were able to start prepping and painting.  We’re finally starting to see what the paint colors look like on the house, so I figured it would be a good time to share an update. As a quick refresher, here’s what…

One of the projects we decided to tackle this spring in conjunction with painting the exterior of the house was to switch from overhead to underground service for power, phone, and cable.  It’s something we’ve talked about doing pretty much the whole time we’ve lived in the house and we figured it would be good…

Since I last posted anything on the blog, we’ve made some really great progress on our spring-turned-summer project to spruce up the exterior of our house … as we should have, considering that it’s been OVER A MONTH since I’ve posted anything.  I had such super great intentions of posting frequent updates throughout the entire…

Yesterday, I (finally) posted some “after” pictures of the new paint on the exterior of the house.  Today I wanted to share some of the other updates that we made to spruce up the house in addition to painting.  So, here goes: 1)  Installed two new sets of patio doors in the sunroom.   This was…

After a pretty long break from posting updates on the blog (sorry!), I finally shared some “after” pictures of our exterior paint last week, along with the list of related “add-on” projects we completed to help spruce up the outside of the house. As a quick refresher, here’s a “before” and “after” of the front: Big…
