In the Fall of 2010, we started work on a rather extensive project to update the front of our house. Since this had been the back of our house when it was built, our main goal was to create an obvious and welcoming front door and entry way space where none had been needed before.

To accomplish this, we made a small addition under the existing porte cochere roof, which allowed for an expanded entry way, a new front door, and a front porch.

The “After” pictures:

Inside, we gained a couple of much-needed closets and updated the adjacent powder room. And outside, we re-poured a sizable portion of the driveway, removed some large oak trees, and re-landscaped around the house.

“Slow and Steady” seems to be the name of the game for pouring the new circle driveway and parking pad in front of the garage.  Yesterday and today, the contractors finished pouring the basically straight portion of the new driveway that connects the circle part with the straight stretch out to the road.  Here’s a…

Our New Driveway is Done!

The last big section of our new driveway was poured yesterday and one of the contractors came back this morning to cut the expansion joints.  Our new driveway is officially done!  Here are some “Before” and “After” pictures! Before: The old driveway was an uneven blend of concrete & blacktop by the garage with a…

In the last week or so, a lot of progress has been made on our project to add a front porch & entry way to the house and re-pour the circle driveway.  At the start of the week, the contractors wrapped up the concrete work by pouring a new sidewalk to the door by the…

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update on our project to expand the entry way and add a front porch to our house in place of the old porte cochere and a lot has happened since the last pictures we shared!  Here’s a picture from this afternoon: The new front door finally came…

This week, there has been a lot of progress on our entry way addition and front porch project. On Monday, the rest of the porch flooring was primed and installed.  I’m so excited to see the finished flooring, but I haven’t managed to get a picture of it yet … the time change is making…

Entry Way Project Update

The new front porch and entry area has really started to take shape in the last several days.  It’s looking so different now, so I thought it was time to post some updated photos. Last week, several more coats of primer and paint went on the exterior of the new entry way addition and the…

With the entry way project getting wrapping up in the next few weeks (hopefully!) we’ve started to focus on selecting hardware and fixtures for the new space.  We started by looking at the local home improvement centers and a couple of design showrooms, but weren’t finding a lot items that seemed right in our older…

One of our goals for the entry way addition project was for the front door to become more prominent so that there would no longer be confusion about which door should be the main entry to the house.  Here’s an old picture of how the house looked before: Before we started work on the addition,…

Paint, Lights, & Tile!

Even with the short week last week, there have been a lot of changes in the new entry way space recently, so I figured it was time to post some more pictures! Early last week, the painters finished applying the primer and first finish coat of plant on all of the interior walls.  In the…

Entry Way Tile Progress

The tile installer was back today and started laying out the tile in the entry way and bathroom according to the design we put together a couple of months ago.  Only about 2/3 of the tile has been laid so far and none of it has been grouted, but we can start to see what…

The tile installer came back today to finish the installation of our “vintage” mosaic tile floor in the entry way by grouting the tile he installed yesterday.  The floor still needs a good cleaning to get all the grout haze off of it, but we’re pretty happy with the way it looks.  For being a…

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an update on the progress in the new entry way addition, so I figured it was time for some new pictures.  The tile floor was finished during the first week of December and progress has slowed significantly since then while we’ve waited for the interior doors and trim…
