Landscaping

It's straight!

I’m really embarrassed to admit that the project to install a new flag pole, which we had planned for a weekend back in July, is only just now complete.  We, of course, have lots of excuses … it was too hot, digging up the old one was more work than anticipated, we had other things…

Our house came with an old fashioned horse hitching post at the point of our circle (ok, maybe more like tear-drop shaped) driveway.  One of the previous owners was into horses and welding … hence the hitching post. We never paid a whole lot of attention to the horse … mostly because it was hidden…

This weekend, we’ve decided to tackle a long overdue project: replacing the worn out, rusted out flag pole in the front yard with a new one.  The flag pole’s never looked great, but since the new landscaping work in the front yard, it’s really started to stand out … and not in a good way….

Raccoons are Everywhere!

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been reminded about the large population of raccoons we share our yard with.  Normally they will get into the trash every now and then, but otherwise, they don’t make themselves too obvious or cause too many problems.  This year, though, is a different story. On the Fourth of…

Last summer, we started the project to replace an old railroad tie retaining wall in the back yard by the pool with a new block wall.  By the middle of the summer, we had installed the straight portion of the wall and had a new sidewalk and concrete steps poured next to one end, but…

It’s been almost 3 weeks since the sod was installed in the center of the circle driveway, marking the completion of the entry way addition project!  It’s hard to believe it’s finally officially done!  Although there have been a lot of changes since we started the project last September, we think the addition of grass…

New Landscaping

We’re finally starting to make progress cleaning up the front yard from the new driveway and entry way addition last fall.  A few weeks ago, we had a tree service come in to remove the logs and grind out the stumps of the two oak trees that were taken down last fall in preparation for…

Last fall, as we were getting started on the entry way & driveway project, we had 2 large oak trees taken down in the front yard.  The tree service ground up all of the branches, but left the larger logs for us to cut up for fire wood.  Over the winter Chad and his dad…

Starting yesterday afternoon, we had the first snowfall of the year, with about 3″ of accumulation.  It looks like a winter wonderland outside! Chad also used this as his opportunity to try out the new snow blower for our lawn tractor, which worked out pretty well.  We think we’re really going to like not having…

Snow Blower Skid Shoes

One of the main reasons we bought a snow blower this year was to avoid marking up our new driveway.  Chad was also worried about the steel skids on the blower scratching the drive.  To further reduce the risk he bought a pair of these shoes online.  The site listed the material as Robalon which…

New Snow Blower

John Deere 47" Quick Hitch Snow Blower

We haven’t set it up yet, but today Chad and I picked up a snow blower for our garden tractor.  Chad is planning to set it up and complete the installation later this weekend.  I will post more pictures once it’s done.

The Trees are Down!

It took a little longer than we expected, but after 2 full days of work, the tree service has finished cutting down a blue spruce tree in the back yard by the pool and two oak trees in the front yard that were in the center of the circle drive. The blue spruce came down…
